BASEMENT BLISS

This beautiful basement makeover was initiated after our home sustained a massive flood a few years ago.  Like most basements, it is a forgotten space in our homes.  Carpet, old furniture and anything you don't want to look at ends up in the basement.  The square footage of your basement is more than likely the same square footage of your main level.  That's half or a third of your home not being used to its full potential.  With a clean slate, the focus was on creating a space that would motivate us to live our best life, yes even in the basement!  This dark and cold space needed to feel luxurious and warm.  Lighting and textures played key roles on this project.  Layering the lighting and the use of soft furnishings created the warmth this dark basement was lacking.  Function and human experience meant the design had to work for our family.  Our home is an open door, always filled with family, friends and neighbours so durable finishes were also very important.   As an interior decorator the single best thing about starting a project with a clean slate...all the electrical outlets are EXACTLY where they need to be!

RUSTIC RADIANCE

This gorgeous country property was lacking function and style.  The homeowners love for family, trees and the colour brown were my jumping off point for this redesign.  The homeowners were looking to renovate their living room and dining room.  Leading busy lives, like most of us today, their wish list needed to include an area where they could reconnect with their children on a daily basis, play a board game, a quiet place to read a book or just enjoy a coffee with a friend.  Since adding more square footage was not an option, it was clear that the dining room that was NEVER used needed to serve another purpose for this busy family.  The addition of custom swivel chairs, great for conversations and a custom storage ottoman that houses board games made this space functional again.  I was thrilled to learn that the new lounge space is the most used space in their home.

SMALL SPLENDOR

Working with a small space and budget, this family space had to deliver.  Family heirlooms that included a piano and antique cabinet needed to be worked into the design.  This was a challenge since the width of the room measured only 7 feet in some areas.  The clients were looking for a calm place to work, play and relax with their family.  My inspiration came from a beautiful glass vase the client wanted to be incorporated into the space.  The antique cabinet got a makeover, a DIY project the client was excited to take on.  The homeowner's three children also wanted to be a part of the design process.  Their beautiful artwork is showcased in the space.  Big box store cabinetry provided plenty of storage and kept the project on budget.  The space before the redesign sat empty, now the space is alive with function and creativity.
